Craft-athon for Critters!
I've invented a new charity event..the Craft-athon for Critters. Not only that, I have co-erced my mom into doing it with me. Here's what we've decided to do.
EVENT DATE: January 31st, 9am to 9pm
OUR GOAL: Raise money for our SPCA while making Snuggles blankets for the homeless cats and dogs.
PLAN: 12 hours of knitting and crocheting cat and dog blankets. We'll do as many blankets as we can in that time, then donate them all to the SPCA, and gather sponsor donations.
HOW YOU CAN HELP: You can help us in our quest to help the homeless cats and dogs by making a charitable donation through the button below. You can sponsor us per hour, for example, $1 an hour for $12, or any amount you'd like. Every little bit helps. OR, make a donation to your local animal shleter in honour of our attempt!
If you're a crafty person and would like to join in from your own location, simply email me to let us know! sandrawickham@live.ca. We can encourage and support each other while making some animals very happy!
Crafts for Critters
"Hugs for Homeless Animals" is an organization that knits, collects and distributes "Snuggles" blankets for cats and dogs at homeless shelters. You can visit their website at http://www.4h4a.org/snugglesIf you knit or crochet, these blankets are quick and easy to make. They're a great project for beginners, since the cats and dogs won't mind if you make a mistake!
This is a link to photos of some of the blankets I have done, including my "blanket tester": Hugs for Homeless Animals.
Free the Children
This was the first project I did with my competitive team. Free the Children puts together school kits and health kits to be sent to children overseas.
When I brought this project to our team, my intention was to have each team member buy one or two items in the kits, and we would put one or two kits together. My team members however, surprised me by offering to buy entire kits (or more than one kit!) themselves! So our team put together 10 school kits and 5 health kits.!!!
If you are interested in sending school kits or health kits, here is more information including the inventories for both:
This organization was started by two young brothers in Ontario. If you would like to see more information about the brothers and this particular organization, visit www.metowe.org and
www.freethechildren.com
Free The Children is the largest network of children helping children through education in the world, with more than one million youth involved in our innovative education and development programs in 45 countries.

My Sister's Closet
Once again, Team Wickham is going to clean out their closets for a good cause!!!
There is an organization in Vancouver called Battered Women's Support Services who provide counselling, support for victims of abuse, as well as providing training and education on violence against women. They have a a thrift boutique called "My Sister's Closet", where battered women can get vouchers for free clothing and household items. Our team is going to be helping them out by donating our unwanted things. If you live in the lower mainland area and would like to donate, you can see more information on the BWSS organization and My Sister's Closet here: www.bwss.org/programs/mysisters_closet.htm
It costs nothing while at the same time helps us clean out our own closets!!
Whales Revenge
You can help stop whaling by visiting this site, www.whalesrevenge.com and adding your name to the petition.
You can go to the site and sign the petition in the box in the right corner.
They also provide a ton of information and links to other sites as well.
AND you can pass it on to your friends-hopefully we can make an impact!
Indigo Love of Reading Fund
Our team collected donations at several of our dress rehearsals for the Chapters/Indigo Love of Reading fund that provides new books and learning materials to schools in Canada. The fund has given out over $4.5 million to schools across Canada since 2004.
